Lifestyle Desk – In many parts of the country the temperature has reached more than 40 degrees Celsius. In such a situation, where people are avoiding leaving the house, maintaining their daily routine is no less than a challenge for fitness enthusiasts. Experts say that working out in summer is beneficial, but a little carelessness can push you towards serious problems like dehydration, heat exhaustion and heat stroke.
In hot weather, body temperature increases rapidly and water and essential electrolytes are lost in the form of sweat. If this loss is not compensated on time, the body starts feeling tired, dizzy and weak. In such a situation, it is important that you make some important changes in your fitness routine. Let us know about it in detail.
Choose the right time: Early morning or late evening is considered the safest time for workout in summer. During this period the temperature is relatively low, due to which there is no additional pressure on the body. One should avoid exercising in the afternoon because this time is the hottest.
Hydration is most important. It is very important to drink adequate amount of water before, during and after workout. Not only water, but coconut water, buttermilk or electrolyte drinks also help in keeping the body hydrated. Keep in mind that do not wait to feel thirsty, but keep taking fluids at regular intervals.
Wear light and breathable clothes. It is better to wear loose-fitting and light-colored clothes during workout. Cotton or dry-fit fabric helps keep the body cool and absorbs sweat quickly. Keep the intensity under control. High-intensity workouts should be avoided in hot summer. Instead, give preference to light or moderate exercise like yoga, stretching or walking. This puts less pressure on the body and also maintains fitness.
Do not ignore body signals. If you feel problems like dizziness, excessive sweating, nausea or headache during workout, stop immediately and rest in a cool place. These can be signs of heat stress, ignoring which can prove dangerous.
Take care of diet also: In summer, light and nutritious diet should be taken. Fresh fruits, salads and water-rich foods like cucumber, watermelon and orange help in keeping the body cool. Experts believe that with a little understanding and right habits, you can maintain your fitness even in the scorching heat. It is important that you listen to your body and change your daily routine according to the season.
