Amit Shah visits Ladakh Sonam Wangchuk: From April 30, Union Home Minister Amit Shah will be on a two-day visit to Ladakh. During the Leh-Ladakh tour, Home Minister Amit Shah can make some big announcements here. The Indian Express/Jansatta has talked to environmentalist Sonam Wangchuk on this. This is the same person who was arrested under NSA. Last month, he was released from jail and the NSA imposed on him was removed. During the conversation, when the media asked him what are the confidence building steps that Ladakh expects from the Central Government which should be presented before the visit of Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
Criminal cases should be withdrawn – Wangchuk
On this, Sonam Wangchuk said that the leaders of the apex body have requested the Center to withdraw the criminal cases registered against 83 people, who have been wrongly accused under different sections. Some of them were spiritual, religious activists and leaders and some were passersby who were trying to stop the violence. I was accused as the main conspirator in this case.
However, the Center withdrew the case registered against me under NSA as a goodwill gesture. Wangchuk said that we hope that similar steps will be taken for these people also.
NSA removed as goodwill gesture
Sonam Wangchuk further said that I know that the NSA was withdrawn even before the Supreme Court’s decision in my case. But I believe it was removed as a goodwill gesture. Therefore, we urge the Central Government to take a similar stand for those 83 people also. Real bullets were fired at our own citizens, some were shot in the head, some in the chest. Trust will be built only when the cases are withdrawn and this step opens the way for meaningful dialogue.
What is the whole matter?
Last year there were protests demanding statehood for Ladakh and the Sixth Schedule. During the protests in September 2025, Sonam Wangchuk, a famous environmentalist from Ladakh, was arrested for inciting the crowd to protest. NSA was also imposed on him. Under this, Wangchuk was kept in Jodhpur jail for 170 days. A hearing was to be held in the Supreme Court in March last month. Before this, the Central Government, as a goodwill gesture, removed the NSA from him and released him. Is.
