'Jab tum chhote the… mujhe bharosa tha tum kuch bada karoge': Grandfather's Words at Google Campus Leave Bengaluru Techie Emotional

When Bengaluru-based software engineer Manish Singh walked his grandfather through the Google campus , there was very little he tried to explain.

He didn’t need to.

His grandfather paused for a moment, taking in the space around him – the buildings, the people, the life his grandson had built. He looked slowly, as if matching it with something he had imagined long ago.

Some things don’t need words.

A beginning shaped by effort
“I come from a very humble background, where every small step forward took a lot of effort and sacrifice from my family.”

Manish’s journey began in a small government school, where resources were limited, and progress depended on persistence. There was no defined path ahead – only the need to keep moving.

At home, his grandparents – Rama Shankar Singh and Shyambihari Singh – stayed firm in one belief: education would open doors, even if none were visible yet.

The move that changed everything
At a crucial point, that belief turned into a decision.

With his father working abroad, his mother, Neetu Singh, moved to Patna on her own so her son could study in a better environment.

“It wasn’t easy for her, but she chose my future over her comfort.”

The shift came with its own challenges – new surroundings, new expectations – and an unspoken awareness of what had been given up to make it possible.
