The Government of Delhi has initiated the implementation of its Heat Wave Action Plan 2026 across the city in response to rising temperatures and increasing heatwave conditions. The measures are aimed at strengthening public health preparedness and minimizing the impact of extreme heat on residents. As part of the plan, more than 339 health centres across Delhi have been equipped with essential medicines and medical supplies to manage heat-related illnesses. In addition, over 30 hospitals have set up dedicated “cool rooms” to provide relief to patients affected by high temperatures.

Emergency response services have also been reinforced, with around 330 ambulances deployed on a 24×7 basis. Authorities stated that medical staff have received specialized training to handle heat-related emergencies, ensuring timely response and treatment. The plan includes the expansion of public cooling infrastructure. Water ATMs, over 1,900 water coolers, and more than 11,000 cooling points are being installed across various locations in the city to provide access to drinking water and shaded areas.

In the education sector, schools have introduced a “Water Bell System” to remind students to stay hydrated. Adjustments in work timings have also been made in certain sectors to reduce exposure to peak daytime heat. Officials indicated that the initiative reflects a coordinated effort to address the challenges posed by extreme weather conditions. Public advisories have been issued encouraging residents to avoid prolonged exposure to sunlight, stay hydrated, and take necessary precautions. The implementation of the Heat Wave Action Plan highlights ongoing measures to enhance resilience against climate-related risks in urban areas, with a focus on safeguarding public health and essential services.
