Said- All the culprits should be immediately arrested and they should be given the harshest punishment.
New Delhi. Senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi strongly condemned the killing of party worker Debdeep Chatterjee by Trinamool Congress goons, saying his party will not bow down to this politics which tarnishes India’s non-violent tradition. Chatterjee was brutally murdered in Asansol during the post-poll violence in West Bengal. The party claims that Chatterjee was a close aide of Congress candidate from Asansol North, Prosenjit Puitandi.
The West Bengal unit of the Congress alleged that people of the ruling Trinamool Congress beat up Chatterjee severely, after which he died shortly after. Gandhi posted on
He wrote, today there is no democracy in West Bengal, but the reign of terror of Trinamool. Intimidating the opponents after voting, attacking them and suppressing their voice – this has become the basic nature of Trinamool Congress.
Congress always chose the path of non-violence
He said that Congress’s politics has never been based on violence and never will be. The former Congress President said, we have also lost our workers, yet we have always chosen the path of non-violence and the Constitution. This is our heritage, this is our resolve. Our demand is clear – all the culprits should be immediately arrested, they should be given the harshest punishment and full security and compensation should be given to Debdeep’s family. He said, we will not bow down to this politics, which tarnishes India’s non-violent tradition. Justice will definitely be given.
FIR was not registered
The state Congress, in a post on ‘X’, said that this tragic incident highlights the complete breakdown of law and order in the state and also raises serious questions on the safety of opposition workers in West Bengal. “The occurrence of such violence so soon after voting highlights a deeply worrying pattern of political intimidation and retaliation,” she said. State Congress said, it is extremely worrying that even after receiving information about the incident, FIR was not registered, which clearly shows the administrative apathy towards this serious incident.
