Did Assam Rifles Supply Gear to Kukis in Manipur? Govt Calls Claims Fake

The Centre has firmly rejected viral social media claims alleging that personnel of the Assam Rifles were caught supplying tactical gear to armed groups in Manipur’s Ukhrul district, calling the allegations completely false and misleading.
The claims, which spread rapidly online, were described by officials as baseless and intended to create distrust and inflame tensions in the already sensitive region.
The controversy appears to have stemmed from a post by a social media handle identifying itself as “Voice of the Naga Youth,” which accused Indian security forces of providing uniforms, bulletproof vests and other equipment to Kuki militants. The post alleged that Assam Rifles personnel were “caught red-handed” transporting such items at Shokvao in Ukhrul on April 24, 2026, and was accompanied by a video.
However, the Press Information Bureau (PIB) fact-check unit has categorically debunked the claim, terming it “completely false and fabricated.”
In its clarification, PIB said several posts carrying similar allegations are part of a coordinated attempt to spread misinformation and undermine the credibility of security forces deployed in Manipur.
“Claims that Assam Rifles personnel were caught transporting tactical equipment to armed groups in Ukhrul district are FAKE,” the PIB said, urging the public not to share unverified or sensitive content that could incite unrest.
Authorities also advised citizens to rely on official sources for accurate information and exercise caution before forwarding such claims on social media.
