Delhi Capitals pacer Lungi Ngidi suffered a head injury during the IPL 2026 game against the Punjab Kings at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on April 25. Quick response and coordination by the Delhi Traffic Police resulted in the immediate creation of a green corridor, thus enabling the injured cricketer to reach the hospital without delay.

The ambulance that was carrying Ngidi from the stadium to BLK-Max Super Speciality Hospital, located at Rajendra Nagar, reached at the hospital in just 11 minutes. Heavy Traffic in the capital did not hinder the operation, and routes were swiftly cleared by authorities to provide passage for the ambulance.

The entire operation was overseen by ACP Traffic Central, Sanjay Singh, who closely worked with the police control room, ground officers and traffic police to ensure a smooth ride. It was DCP Traffic Central Range, Nishant Gupta, who had to supervise the entire task and no stoppage was encountered by the ambulance during the commute.

A distress call was received by the organisers informing about Ngidi's situation. It was then that the Delhi Traffic Police swiftly moved into action.

Injury during catch attempt shocks stadium

The Delhi Capitals pacer was running backwards from mid-off to catch a shot played by Priyansh Arya from Axar Patel’s bowling, but lost his balance while tracking the ball and landed heavily, his shoulder and head hitting the ground. Ngidi lay there for a few moments, his body limp. He was seen holding his head in pain, leading to concern in the stadium.

He was attended to by the medical staff immediately, a neck brace was applied, and then he was carried on a stretcher to the ambulance. Players from both teams were visibly concerned and the stadium fell into a moment of quiet. Ngidi was then taken to the hospital in an ambulance, the presence of a lot of policemen at the venue helping to navigate through the traffic.
