New Delhi: The hotel manager, where Rahul Meena stayed after killing an IRS officer’s daughter, said that the accused came across as “sweet” and “calm”. The manager recalled his brief interaction with the man, which happened just hours after he murdered the 22-year-old woman, the daughter of an IRS officer at Kailash Hills.

Meena booked room under fake name, had no Aadhar card: Dwarka hotel manager

The hotel where Meena stayed after committing the crime is located in Dwarka area. The hotel manager was quoted by Hindustan Times as saying, “I remember him. He had come to book a room.”

The hotel manager said that Meena told him that he was from Alwar, Rajasthan and had come to Delhi for some work. The manager described him as “calm” and “sweet.” He said that the man’s demeanor did not in any way indicate that he had committed such a horrific crime just hours earlier.

The manager said that Meena was very apologetic for not having an Aadhar Card. He reportedly told the manager his Aadhar number and paid Rs 1,500 in cash for the room. However, he used a fake name to book the room. He identified himself as Rahul Kumar, said the manager.

The investigators said that Meena ordered food a T-shirt online from his hotel room in Dwarka, before being apprehended.

Police enter hours later, Meena arrested

The hotel manager had thought that this was just another customer. However he was in for a shock, as just hours later, the Delhi Police personnel reached the premises, searching for a man named Rahul Meena.

The manager said, “At around 4 pm, a police team reached the hotel and started making inquiries.” He said that he was scared and it was only after the arrest of Meena that he got to know that he had raped and killed a woman in Amar Colony.

The police said that Meena was carrying 2 mobile phones, one of which belonged to the victim. He reportedly took a taxi to Dwarka from Amar colony and threw away the victim’s phone somewhere on the route. He switched off the other phone he had to avoid being tracked, they added.

Rahul Meena and his criminal record

According to the police, Meena, who was earlier employed at the victim’s house, knew the entire layout of the house. He also knew where the spare keys were kept and that the victim’s parents were away at the gym, early in the morning. He therefore planned to break into the building in the early hours of the day.

After entering the building using a spare key, he went straight to the woman’s study room on the top floor. He reportedly asked for money, but when she refused and tried to call her father, he attacked her. Meena, hit the woman with a heavy object and then proceeded to strangle her using a mobile charger. After she lost consciousness, he dragged her down the stairs and took her to a room where the family safe was. He tried to open it using her fingerprints, said police. The safe however did not open, they added.

Meena then proceeded to break open the safe using a screw driver and took Rs 2.5 lakh in cash and jewellery kept in it, according to investigators. The police have now arrested the accused and are investigating the matter.

Before coming to Delhi, he had also raped another woman, the wife of his friend in Alwar. The woman had been threatened by him and asked not to reveal anything to her family. However, she told her family about the entire ordeal on Wednesday morning, the same day that Meena killed the IRS officer’s daughter.

The Alwar police have detained Meena and 5 others for questioning. They will be handed over to the Delhi Police soon.
