Lifestyle Desk – There is a glut of mangoes in the market during the summer season. Mango is called the “king of fruits”, but choosing the right mango is not easy for everyone. Many times we buy good looking mangoes, but then they either turn sour or spoil quickly. If you also want to avoid this problem, then it is very important to keep some important things in mind while buying mangoes.
pay attention to color
First of all, it is very important to pay attention to the color of the mango, but do not decide just by looking at the color. Many people think that yellow or golden mangoes are sweet, whereas this is not always true. Some varieties of mangoes remain light green even after ripening. But they are sweet in taste.
understand by smell
Along with the color, also check the fragrance of the mango. Ripe mango gives off a slightly sweet aroma, especially near the stalk.
press and see
Try pressing the mango lightly. If the mango feels a little soft, then understand that it is ripe and ready to eat. Mangoes that are too soft may become overripe, which can spoil quickly. At the same time, very hard mango is unripe and will take time to ripen.
check the peel
Also look carefully at the skin of the mango. There should not be many dark spots, cuts or wrinkles on it. Light blemishes are normal, but severely damaged mangoes may rot quickly. Also, be careful of mangoes that are too bright, as they are often cooked with chemicals.
Do not consume crushed mangoes.
While buying mangoes, also keep in mind that they should not be too pressed. Such mangoes spoil quickly and can become rotten from inside also. Always choose mangoes that are fresh in appearance and without any damage.
In this way mango remains fresh for a long time
To keep mangoes fresh for a long time, if you have bought raw mangoes, then let them ripen at room temperature only. Keeping them wrapped in newspaper helps them cook quickly and evenly. Ripe mangoes can be kept in the refrigerator, but keeping them too cold can reduce their taste.
Do not keep in plastic bag
Do not keep mangoes closed in plastic bags, because this increases moisture and the fruit can spoil quickly. It is better to keep them in an open basket or paper bag, so that air circulation is maintained. If you want to keep cut mango, keep it in an airtight container in the refrigerator and use it within 1-2 days. You can also freeze mango pieces for longer storage.
