
New Delhi, 23 April. Voting for the first phase of assembly elections was completed on 152 seats in West Bengal and all 234 seats in Tamil Nadu on Thursday. Record voting has been recorded in both the states. Along with this, voting was also held today for by-elections in Baramati and Rahuri assembly seats of Maharashtra and Umreth assembly seats of Gujarat.
According to the data released by the Election Commission of India (ECI) at 8 pm, this time the voters of Bengal have shown huge enthusiasm. If we believe the figures, leaving behind the old record, 91.78 percent voters have cast their votes in the first phase in West Bengal while 84.69 percent voters have cast their votes in Tamil Nadu.
Voting for the remaining 142 seats in the second phase in West Bengal will be held on April 29. Along with these two states, the results of Assam, Kerala and Union Territory Puducherry assembly elections will be declared on May 4. Voting was completed in those three states earlier this month.
In both the states the voting percentage of women is more than that of men.
According to the Election Commission data, the fate of 1478 candidates is to be decided on 152 seats in 16 districts in Bengal. In the first phase, 3.6 crore voters were eligible to vote. Of these, 90.92 percent male, 92.69 percent female and 56.79 percent third gender voters exercised their franchise.
Whereas in Tamil Nadu, the fate of 4023 candidates was sealed in EVMs in front of more than 5.73 crore voters. Like Bengal, in Tamil Nadu too, the voting percentage of women was higher than that of men. A total of 85.76 percent women exercised their franchise while 83.57 percent men cast their votes. The voting percentage of third gender voters was 60.49 percent.
