While Gautam Gambhir's Indian team is riding high in the T20Is, they are having serious struggles in Test cricket. The two-time World Test Championship finalist failed to reach the final last time in 2025, and now they are in the sixth position of the WTC table. Amid that, the Board of Cricket Council is planing to use Jasprit Bumrah rightfully.
According to a report from Times of India, the BCCI is expecting the premier bowler to play at least 9 Tests in the remaining WTC cycle 2025-2027. Even though the 2027 ICC Men's ODI World Cup is nearing, he primary plan is to keep him fresh for all 5 Tests against Australia. Apart from that, he will a total of four Tests against Sri Lanka and New Zealand. A source close to the proceedings said to TOI,
“The attempt is to keep Bumrah fit enough to play all Tests. He is expected to play the four Tests in Sri Lanka and New Zealand. The challenge will be to keep him fresh for the five Tests at home against Australia. The selectors won’t mind resting him for some ODI series. He played T20 cricket after a gap of two years in the Asia Cup last Sept and still delivered."

Will Bumrah feature in the Afghanistan Test?
Currently, the Indian players are busy with the Indian Premier League. associated with the Mumbai Indians, Bumrah took his first wicket of the season against Gujarat Titans, which was also MI's second win so far.
However, right after the packed IPL, India will be preparing for the one-off Test against Afghanistan. The team will play a three-match ODI series too. However, Bumrah, even though might play the white ball series, he might be rested for the Test match.
However, the final decision will be declared after the IPL ends. The source added,
“The idea is to get serious about Tests. The Afghanistan Test may be outside the WTC cycle but there’s nothing like match practice. The top players will be assessed and a call on them will be taken accordingly."
