Virat Kohli's formerly owned restaurant branch shuts due to rent disputes
Cricket Gully | April 22, 2026 10:39 PM CST

Previously co-owned by Virat Kohli, the "One8 Commune" restaurant in Bengaluru has been closed for an indefinite period of time after the court's order. Presently Trio Hills Hospitality owns the restaurant. It is located near the Chinnaswamy Stadium and has been shut down reportedly after failing to pay the rent.

A report from Indian Today claimed that the restaurant had overall dues of over INR 2 crores. The restaurant has confirmed to stay shut as long as they are not clearing the dues.

Earlier, the restaurant had faced several legal issues. A civic body send them a notice to operate without adequate fire safety measures. They are alleged to not have a No Objection Certificate from the fire department.

Additionally, in June of the previous year, a complaint was registered against the establishment under the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act due to the absence of a designated smoking zone on its premises.

Furthermore, the restaurant was found to be functioning beyond the permitted operating hours.

Kohli continues to co-own other One8 Commune branches despite Bengaluru issues

Virat Kohli’s association with One8 Commune goes far beyond that of a celebrity endorser—he is a co-founder and the driving force behind the brand’s vision. Launched in 2017, One8 Commune was built around the idea of community dining and has since evolved into a thriving hospitality chain with more than 15 outlets across India.

Kohli continues to be the majority stakeholder, holding nearly 76% of the brand through Universal Sportsbiz. He co-owns the venture with his childhood friend Vartik Tihara, whose company, True Palate Hospitality, manages the day-to-day operations. Industry professionals like Anshul Goel and Ankit Tayal are also part of the leadership structure.

While Kohli exited the Bengaluru outlet due to operational issues, his involvement in the broader brand remains strong. In fact, his stake is expanding strategically, including a 2025 deal with Agilitas Sports, where he sold the One8 apparel arm but retained co-founder status.

Family support also plays a role, with his brother Vikas Kohli actively overseeing operations and partnerships.
