Gary Wilson shot down any suggestions that fluke shots from Judd Trump had any major impact on his ousting from the World Championships on Tuesday evening. The Tyneside Terror failed to make much of a mark whatsoever against the World No. 1 in his opening match at the Crucible, as he crashed out in a 10-5 loss.
It marks the fourth occasion that Wilson has been knocked out of the event in the very first round, and he was dejected as he spoke to the BBC in the aftermath. When asked if Trump's pair of flukes which kept him on the table in the evening session had any part of his loss, Wilson replied: "Not really, deep down I was cueing awful as usual. It's just a constant disappointment.
"I am, and always have been, since the age of 13, a better player than this. You know, it's just a constant struggle all the time now. The yips are getting worse, I'm just riding through it. People are being really naïve if I'm being totally honest.
"People who know snooker, people are watching and going, 'You're good there,' missing all the really bad shots and all the really snatchy ones and not seeing anything that a normal good player would notice. That's even frustrating, everything's just frustrating because no one's even seeing what I'm showing them, you know?
"So as I say, I'm just riding it out. I'm playing okay at times, but I'm just masking the problems to be totally honest. It's just debilitating. Towards the end there, you lose a little bit of heart. And it's not composure...

"I get that nonsense as well - off commentators and stuff. It's honestly not composure. It's a little bit of heart and a little bit of embarrassment, where you know you're playing a little bit worse towards the end of the match than you even were at the start. And even if you do manage to get in, you kind of feel like you can't even hold yourself together so you just try different things.
"It's not composure. You just try to speed up, you try to play more aggressive, you try to do anything, it's desperation. I just wish I could have a game like I used to have. I would come to these tournaments to enjoy it and to compete. And I'm still sort of competing, playing like that, and that's the sad thing.
"I'm sort of competing, I'm sort of at that point where what do you do? There's not really a lot you can do. I'm making a good living, I'm, sort of, trying to enjoy the game. I'm trying to obviously do well in tournaments, but my game's just letting me down. It's as simple as that, really, yeah."
Asked about how he plans to address his issues ahead of the new season, Wilson added: "It's been a number of years, and I'm really just lost. I'm completely lost at this point - I'm even starting to speak to somebody. And I've done that before, I've spoke to people before, and it's not a sort of mental thing for me.
"Listen, we've all got temperaments on a scale, some may be slightly better than others. Mine isn't bad, honestly, when I'm feeling like I can just cue a ball in a straight line. I feel like people can see that in past performances over the years, like when I got to the semi-finals here.
"I thought that was bad, back then, and I'm struggling even more than that. My temperament was great though cause I felt alright. Just don't have anything really, I don't really know what to do from here. But look, I'm making a good living. I'm still doing okay. That's just depressing though, the more the years go on, unfortunately."
As a result of his win, Trump will now face either Si Jiahui or Hossein Vafaei in the last 16 of the World Championships. The Ace in the Pack hasn't enjoyed the best results at the Crucible historically, as he looks to double down on his sole world title from 2019.
