The artist representing the UK in this year's Eurovision Song Contest is getting set to take to the stage in Vienna, Austria, on May 16 in the hopes of securing victory for us for the first time since 1997, when Katrina and the Waves won with Love Shine a Light. However, Look Mum, No Computer, real name Sam Battle has come under fire for his track Eins, Zwei, Drei. The public had their first listen on BBC radio on March 6 and took to X to deride it.

The song, which blends Britpop with retro 1980s sounds features a chorus largely in German and lyrics which seem to deride British culture. He sings: "Counting in English doesn't cut the mustard. So sick of munching roly-poly with custard. I'm so bored with it, bored with it." Speaking exclusively to Express.co.uk ahead of his first live performance of the track at the London Eurovision Party on Sunday April 19, Sam denied the song had an anti-UK sentiment but acknowledged the controversy.

"It didn't surprise me. I quite like challenging people, and I feel it is a bit of a challenge for some folk, and that's the part of it.

"You want to have a reaction from it. It feels like the UK is taking a bit of a risk this year. In fact, when I wrote the song, I thought this is never gonna get chosen for those reasons, but they figured they would try something different."

The UK has spent the past few years languishing in "nil point" hell when it comes to the public vote, and perhaps a multi-lingual track might appeal to the voting nations. However, it could be deemed poor form to enter a song that, whether sarcastically or not, takes a pop at things the UK holds dear.

The argument continues, and you can have your say in our exclusive poll.
