In preparation for the upcoming assembly elections, the Election Commission has enforced stringent restrictions on two-wheeler vehicles across West Bengal. To ensure a free and peaceful electoral process, motorcycle rallies have been banned, nighttime movement has been limited, and pillion riding has also been restricted. These measures took effect on Tuesday, just two days prior to voting, and will apply to all 152 assembly constituencies where the first phase of voting is scheduled for April 23.

According to this directive, riding motorcycles and scooters will not be permitted on the roads from 6 PM to 6 AM, with exceptions only for medical emergencies or family functions. The Commission has completely banned motorcycle rallies, citing concerns about intimidation and disruptions to the electoral process.
Daytime Pillion Riding Restrictions
During the daytime, from 6 AM to 6 PM, pillion riding will also be prohibited. However, exemptions will be made for medical emergencies, family functions, or for dropping off and picking up school children.
Limited Exemptions on Voting Day
On the day of voting, some limited exemptions will be allowed. Family members will be permitted to ride pillion between 6 AM and 6 PM for voting and other essential activities.
The Commission stated that the purpose of these restrictions is to prevent any form of intimidation and disruption, thereby creating a calm and conducive environment for voters. Those seeking exemptions must obtain written permission from their local police station in advance.
