In a recent Instagram post, Siddharth Singh grabbed attention with a statement, calling besan cheela the “worst vegetarian breakfast.” However, he quickly clarified his stance, explaining that his remark was meant to highlight a common nutritional gap rather than dismiss the dish entirely.

According to him, besan cheela is not unhealthy, but it may not be sufficient on its own to meet the body’s needs, especially for those aiming for sustained energy and fitness goals.

The trainer explained that while besan, or gram flour, does contain protein, the quantity is relatively low compared to what the body may require for a balanced start to the day. He added that many people rely on it as a go-to breakfast without realising that it lacks the right mix of macronutrients. This imbalance, he said, can lead to hunger within a short span and affect productivity levels.

To address this, Siddharth suggested a few simple changes that can turn the traditional dish into a more nutritious meal.

His first recommendation focused on reducing oil. He pointed out that besan cheela is often cooked with excess oil, which can make it heavy and less healthy. Cutting down on oil, he said, is the first step towards improving its nutritional value.

The second tip involved pairing the cheela with a protein-rich side. Siddharth recommended adding Greek yoghurt to the meal, noting that it significantly boosts the protein content. By including around 100 to 200 grams of yoghurt, the dish becomes more balanced and helps keep you full for longer.

For those who are more fitness-focused, the trainer suggested an unconventional but effective addition, protein powder. He explained that mixing a scoop of protein into the batter can enhance the overall protein profile of the dish, making it suitable for those looking to build muscle or maintain a high-protein diet.

Siddharth also emphasised that the goal of these changes is not just about physical fitness but also about maintaining energy and focus throughout the day. He explained, "But after eating this, you won't feel hungry for three hours. You will stay away from cravings and your productivity levels will be great."

While sharing the video, he captioned that besan cheela itself is not a bad choice. Instead, he described it as incomplete when eaten alone. With a few adjustments like less oil, added yoghurt, and extra protein, it can easily be turned into a wholesome and satisfying meal.
