Seoyeon Jang's Breakthrough Role
In the second season of Beef, South Korean actress Seoyeon Jang has found a remarkable opportunity, portraying Eunice, the personal assistant and interpreter for Chairwoman Park, played by Youn Yuh-Jung. This American anthology comedy series on Netflix has returned after a three-year hiatus, following its Emmy win, and features a mix of returning cast members and new faces exploring themes of love and animosity. Among a talented ensemble that includes Oscar winners like Oscar Isaac and Carey Mulligan, Jang is stepping into the spotlight. The 31-year-old actress transitioned seamlessly from K-dramas to Beef Season 2, reflecting on her career journey.
Transitioning from K-dramas to Hollywood From K-dramas to Hollywood
Seoyeon Jang has a rich background in K-dramas, having made her acting debut in 2019 with One Fine Week. She has since taken on supporting roles in various romance dramas such as Stock Struck and Love Is for Suckers, as well as thrillers like Doctor Lawyer and Snowdrop. Additionally, she appeared alongside her Beef co-star Song Kang-Ho in the 2021 film Emergency Declaration.
Passion for Acting Seoyeon Jang's Love for Acting
Reflecting on her past, Jang shared that despite her upbringing in London, she never envisioned a career in Hollywood. Her initial focus was on K-dramas, but she soon realized that this limited her opportunities. "I was so adamant in wanting to do K-dramas because that’s where my passion first formed for acting. Then I did Butterfly. I met great people, which opened more doors, and then came to Beef," she explained in an interview.
Shifting from K-pop Aspirations Leaving Behind K-pop Dreams
Interestingly, Jang's return to Korea was not initially aimed at acting; she began her journey as a K-pop trainee. Although she prefers not to disclose the company that recruited her, she recalls moving back at 19. However, she soon abandoned her K-pop ambitions upon discovering her true passion for acting. As opportunities in the West began to arise, she considered expanding her career beyond Korea, stating, "It was never me deciding to go down one route and trying to pursue it. It was just such a natural process. In hindsight, I’m so grateful that it happened this way."
