The Malayalam film industry is celebrating a major milestone as Vaazha 2: Biopic Of A Billion Boys continues its remarkable box office run. The film has crossed the Rs 200 crore mark and has become one of the highest-grossing Malayalam films in recent times. A sequel to Vaazha: Biopic Of A Billion Boys, the film has not only strengthened the franchise’s popularity but also brought attention to the inspiring journey of its writer-producer, Vipin Das.
Who is Vipin Das?
Before entering the world of cinema, Vipin Das was working in the IT sector, according to The Hindu in 2022 interview. Unlike many filmmakers, he did not have the experience of assisting established directors. Instead, he taught himself the craft by making short films and ad projects, gradually learning how to manage a film set and tell stories on screen. His journey into films was driven by passion, but it was far from easy.
Vipin got his first major break when actor Aju Varghese noticed his work in a short film and supported him by taking his script for Mudhugauv to Vijay Babu. This led to his directorial debut in 2016. However, success did not come immediately after his first film.
In an earlier interview with The Cinema Express, Vipin had opened up about a particularly difficult phase in his life. He revealed that before one of his projects went into production, he felt extremely 'depressed' and uncertain about his future in the industry. At one point, he even considered giving up on filmmaking.
He shared, "I told my wife about applying for a different job. I had just sold my car to pay off debts; a week later, the lockdown happened. My producers were still supportive, though. They said we would do it somehow."
Their support played a crucial role in helping him continue his journey. Over time, Vipin Das rebuilt his career with consistent work. He went on to be associated with films like Antakshari, Jaya Jaya Jaya Jaya Hey, and Guruvayoor Ambalanadayil, which helped establish him as a strong creative voice in Malayalam cinema.
In 2024, he wrote Vaazha: Biopic Of A Billion Boys, which introduced a fresh concept and new talent to audiences. Building on its success, the sequel Vaazha 2 has taken things to another level. Directed by Savin SA in his debut, the film features a group of newcomers, including Hashir, Alan, Ajin Joy, and Vinayak, many of whom gained recognition through social media platforms like Instagram. The cast also includes established actors such as Bijukuttan, Vijay Babu, and Aju Varghese.
More about Vaazha 2

In his statement, he expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support and shared that the aim of the franchise has always been to open doors for new voices in cinema. He emphasised that the platform would continue to welcome aspiring writers, directors, actors, and technicians. Stay tuned!
