BBC Countryfile host Adam Henson welcomed John and James onto the show who now work together after John bought cows from James, but now they sell meat together - though he ended the segment with an awkward question. Adam explained that the pair run their farms separately and don't share any profits, but "when it matters" they back each other up. On Sunday's (April 19) show, Adam explained that they were helping one another with their cattle. Adam questioned the pair on how they've managed to work their business out.

He said: "When it comes to selling stock, how do you work that our between the two of you with the business?" Prompting them to explain that it's still quite independent as there's "so much to buy", and that it's "not difficult to find a buyer". James explained: "It's all about timing, John has these ready at the moment and we don't have any ready at home."

Adam questioned if there was any conflict about who was selling to who, prompting James to proudly say that there was never any conflict between the pair. They both stated that it was helpful for them in their business and they both help one another and have different strengths that they bring to the table.

James said: "We buy things and we share things," they've also collectively brought on a member of staff to help each of them. However, in the midst of finding out all of the information about the farmers working together, Adam asked one question that typically should never be asked.

He said to the pair: "So one last question, who's got the biggest bank balance?" He was immediately shut down as he was told: "We don't share that information."

The episode came shortly after Adam opened up on his fears about the future of farming, telling farmers Robert and Dave Nicholson that he's believes there's a need to stress the importance of health and safety on farms that pass from animals to people. He explained that he believes there needs to be boundaries drawn, adding: "But the day that we're not allowed to handle a chick, or stroke a rabbit, or bottle feed a lamb, for me, that's the end of it."

Farmer Rob agreed there was a need for balance, adding: "Do it, but make sure we observe first class protocol," prompting Adam to agree and state that professional organisations are helping lead the way.

Countryfile continues on BBC at 6pm on Sundays.
