Synopsis

A tip-off led police to launch a covert operation inside a TCS Nashik unit, with officers posing as staff to monitor workplace conduct. Their findings triggered nine FIRs, multiple arrests, and serious allegations of sexual harassment, coercion, and religious pressure, prompting an ongoing probe and internal company action.

Police said that eight women employees alleged that senior colleagues at the TCS Nashik office sexually and mentally harassed them over a period of time.
A quiet, weeks-long undercover operation inside a Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) BPO unit in Nashik has exploded into a major criminal probe, with nine FIRs filed and seven employees arrested, including a senior HR official.

Police personnel, posing as housekeeping staff, were deployed inside the 147-employee facility after a February tip-off flagged suspicious workplace conduct. What they observed—documented through daily reports—has now formed the backbone of a widening investigation involving allegations of sexual harassment, coercion, and religious pressure.

The case first surfaced after a complaint from a woman in her early 20s, who accused a colleague of rape, alleging he hid his marital status and promised marriage. Police also invoked charges related to hurting religious sentiments, claiming attempts were made to influence her faith practices. Two arrests followed, and further digital evidence triggered additional complaints.

As the probe deepened, more women—mostly aged 18 to 25—came forward with similar allegations, including inappropriate touching, sexually coloured remarks, and workplace pressure tied to personal or religious choices. In some cases, complainants claimed workloads increased after rejecting advances.

Between March 26 and April 3, nine FIRs were registered across two police stations under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including rape, stalking, and outraging modesty.

So far, seven accused—six men and one woman HR official—have been arrested, while another suspect remains absconding. Investigators have flagged possible lapses in the company’s internal POSH mechanism, alleging complaints were ignored despite repeated escalation.

A Special Investigation Team (SIT) is now examining email trails, chat records, and financial transactions as part of the probe. However, police have said there is no evidence so far of any larger organised conspiracy or external funding.

TCS has suspended the employees involved and reiterated a “zero-tolerance” stance, calling the allegations “gravely concerning” and confirming a parallel internal investigation.

Meanwhile, protests outside the Nashik unit and mounting political reactions have added pressure, even as operations at the facility remain subdued. The investigation is ongoing, with more angles—especially corporate accountability—under scrutiny.
