Budapest, Hungary) . Almost all the results of the voting held on Sunday for the parliamentary elections in Hungary have been revealed. The people of the country have defeated Prime Minister Viktor Orban, who has been ruling for 16 years, and have handed over the mandate to Peter Magyar, leader of the opposition party TISA. America has suffered a major blow due to Orban’s defeat. US Vice President JD Vance had declared Viktor Orban the next Prime Minister of Hungary even before the voting.
According to reports by The Budapest Times and CNN, Tisa Party has secured 138 seats in this election. This is enough for a two-thirds majority. The Fidesz-KDNP alliance won 54 seats and Mi Hajanc won seven seats. Accepting his defeat, Prime Minister Viktor Orban addressed supporters at the Ballana in Budapest. Welcoming the mandate, he thanked the voters. He said, “This result is sad for us.” He said that he would continue to serve the motherland and the Hungarian nation while in the opposition.
Meanwhile, Tisza party leader Peter Magyar declared a landslide victory at Budapest’s Batthyány Square on Sunday evening. “We have won the election with an overwhelming majority. We have liberated Hungary,” he told supporters. He said that never before in Hungary’s democratic history has there been such a massive turnout. Around 33 lakh voters have submitted their mandate.
On the other hand, when Orban conceded defeat to his rival Peter, some people felt it was like a change of power. Writer and poet András Petocz said that this feeling reminded him of being in Budapest at the time of the fall of the Soviet Union. He said,
“I was 30 when the Communist regime ended. It’s exactly the same feeling – exactly the same.”
He says that the first lesson of this election is that it is difficult to take nationalism to the international level. Vowing to defend Hungary from perceived threats from the EU and liberal ideology despite ruling for so long as a defender of national sovereignty, Orbán’s election campaign ultimately ran on the back of his powerful international supporters based in the United States and Russia. President Donald Trump took a lot of interest in this election. He told voters at his Social Truth, “Go out and vote for Victor. He is a true friend, warrior and winner.”
