After a stunning century from Sanju Samson, Jamie Overton delivered an economical spell along with four wickets to seal the first win for CSK in the IPL 2026 season.
They restricted the Delhi Capitals to 189 runs after posting 212 runs in Saturday’s clash at MA Chidambaram Stadium. By this win, CSK moved to ninth position in the IPL 2026 points table.
After being invited to bat first, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Sanju Samson opened the innings while Auqib Nabi opened the bowling attack.
The duo made a decent start, scoring 61 runs in the power play. CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad, who was in search of his touch and form, got dismissed for 15 runs by Axar Patel.
Ayush Mhatre who came to bat at No. 3 started steadily while batting along with Samson. However, Delhi Capitals did make mistakes in fielding missing the chances of run out and catches of Ayush Mhatre.
Sanju Samson went on to smash fifty in the ninth over and Mhatre followed him to smash his fifty scoring 59 runs of 36 deliveries before walked out to dug out for retired out.
Shivam Dube came to bat at no.4 and continued to bat and at the other end, Sanju Samson smashed his first century for CSK. He registered his name in the list of most hundreds in IPL 2026.
By the end of 20 overs, Chennai Super Kings scored 212 runs in their 20 over innings where Sanju Samson remained unbeaten with 115 runs off 56 deliveries.
His knock included 15 fours and four sixes while Shivam Dube scored 20* runs off 10 deliveries.
Chasing 213 run target, KL Rahul and Pathum Nissanka opened the innings while Akeal Hosein opened the bowling attack. Despite a dangerou start from the openers, Khaleel Ahmed brought the first breakthrough dismissing KL Rahul for 18 runs.
Nissanka who posted 24-ball 41 got dismissed by Anshul Kamboj. With Sameer Rizvi and Axar Patel at crease, Delhi Capitals posted 66 runs in the powerplay.
Gurjapneet Singh who made his debut, bagged the wicket of Axar Patel for 1 run in his very first ball. Sarfaraz Khan picked the catch at backward point sending back DC captain to dugout.
Jamie Overton who came to bowl, bagged the wicket of Sameer Rizvi when he tried to hit at deck. David Miller and Tristan Stubbs slowly build a partnership, however Jamie Overton bowled on dangerous Miller for 17 runs.
After his dismissal, Ashutosh Sharma joined Stubbs, but got dismissed by Noor Ahmed for 19 runs. In the meantime, Tristan Stubbs smashed his fifty. Jamie Overton bagged his third wicket sending back to Auqib Nabi Dar for 4 runs.
With the dismissal of Tristan Stubbs for 60 runs by Jamie Overton, Chennai Super Kings did seal the match.
Anshul Kamboj bagged two wickets in his final over and helped the side bowl out Delhi Capitals for 189 runs.
Jamie Overton picked four wickets while Anshul Kamboj completed with three wicket tally. Khaleel Ahmed, Gurjapneet Singh and Noor Ahmad bagged a wicket each.
Chennai Super Kings will play their next game against Kolkata Knight Riders on April 14 at MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai.
