BBC Radio 2 legend Bob Harris shared a delighted six-word update on his health battle. The 80-year-old broadcaster is celebrating his birthday today, on April 11, and shared that the day would also mark the end of a lengthy hospital stay.
Taking to Instagram, the presenter shared a snap from his hospital bed, with a huge grin on his face as he was surrounded by balloons, with a tray full of cakes. He gleefully wrote: "I'm going home for my birthday!" He added a message of gratitude, writing: "A massive shout out to the amazing hospital team that has been so wonderful to me during my ten day stay. Thank you with all my heart. I will always remember your kindness." It comes after he confirmed he was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2007 and is still struggling with his health.
Some of his BBC co-stars were among the first to wish him well. Jo Whiley wrote: "Bob! This is wonderful!! Sending you much much love and birthday wishes from me and Steve."
Zoe ball commented: "Love you Bob," followed by a red loveheart emoji. Meanwhile, Shaun Keaveny added: "All our love pal. The listeners are missing you like hell!! Rest up and cake xxx".
When he was first admitted to hospital a couple of weeks back, Bob shared a lengthy statement.
He said that a health concern which had been developing in recent weeks had required him to get medical attention and confirmed that his shows were going ahead.
"Here I am in hospital taking a short time away from my programmes on @bbcradio2 for treatment of an issue that has been building for the past few weeks," he wrote.
"As many of you know, I suffer from prostate cancer, and every now and again I experience setbacks that need attention. Now is one of these moments.
"This week's Country Show is all ready to go, and Sounds of the 70's on 12th April will be an 80th birthday celebration special, which I recorded just before @c2cfestival with my beautiful friend @zoetheball.
"After that @dariusrucker will be sitting in on Country and @shaunkeaveny_ will be looking after Sounds of the 70's for a few weeks."
He added that he was unable to let fans know when he would be back, but insisted that he was planning to return. Harris penned: "Although I can't at the moment give an exact date for my return, I know that I will come back... and come back stronger.
"I hate missing programmes and I am keen to get back into the studio as soon as I can. Meanwhile, the @bbcradio2 family is supporting me every step of the way."
