A Bridgerton star's latest thriller has claimed the top position on the Netflix UK chart. The "intense" disaster film, which debuted on Netflix yesterday, is helmed by Tommy Wirkola and has left numerous viewers "hooked".

Numerous Bridgerton enthusiasts will recognise Daphne Bridgerton actress Phoebe Dynevor, who headlines the cast as Lisa alongside performers including Djimon Hounsou, Alyla Browne, Stacy Clausen and Dante Ubaldi.

Admirers have been commending her "incredible" performance abilities, with others confessing the "suspenseful" shark film had left them gripped throughout.

The official synopsis for the new Netflix production states: "When a catastrophic hurricane slams a coastal town, stranded residents must survive rapidly rising waters swarming with ravenous sharks."

The film, entitled Thrash, has launched to divided reviews from critics and audiences alike, with merely a 40% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, reports The Mirror.

While some underwhelmed viewers were left "speechless" by what Thrash delivered, others "loved" the production.

One Rotten Tomatoes user commended: "Suspenseful film, had me on edge in parts, I can never usually keep my attention on a film but this one had me hooked all the way through. Would definitely watch again. Must watch film!!

"Suspenseful. Main characters worth rooting for," a second noted, as a third concurred: "Surprisingly tense and well acted!" On X, formerly Twitter, one enthusiastic viewer commented on the trailer: "Great. PHOEBE is incredible..." while another added: "Isn't this full of thrill and suspense."

Not everybody was impressed, however, as one critic wrote on Rotten Tomatoes: "Just not a good movie or thriller, couldn't even finish it. Was not very believable or interesting - very cliche. Was excited for a shark disaster movie but this is not it.

"I switched it off 20 minutes in, boring and predictable," another complained, as one more wrote: "Wow, speechless...please give me back my 83 minutes."

Other viewers were baffled by the film's low score, with one stating: "I don't understand why the rating is show row, there were a lot of tense scenes you feel scared a lot of the time and the acting is well, overall a pretty good and entertaining movie."

Another concurred: "Not sure why all the harsh reviews . I really enjoyed the movie. Even though it was far fetched it was nerve racking for me for sure. I found it intense and suspenseful and thought it was better than any b movie I've seen ! Love a good edge of your seat thriller. Wish it was a tad longer though."

A third chimed in: "Loved this movie, had us on the edge of seat wish it would have been a bit longer."

One further viewer noted: "While it has some flaws and some things out there, it's a very enjoyable and thrilling film. With some really good shark scenes and visual effects. Definitely a B-movie."

Thrash is available to stream now on Netflix.
