Bureau Prayagraj- President Draupadi Murmu has nominated outgoing Deputy Chairman of Rajya Sabha Harivansh as a member of the Upper House. Harivansh’s tenure as a member of the Upper House ended on April 9. He has been nominated as a member of the Rajya Sabha to fill the vacancy that arose after the retirement of former Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi.
“In exercise of the powers conferred by sub-clause (a) of clause (1) of article 80 of the Constitution of India and in accordance with clause (3) of the same article, the President is pleased to nominate Harivansh as a member of the Rajya Sabha to fill the vacancy arising from the retirement of one of the nominated members,” an official government notification said.
Harivansh (69) has completed two terms as a member of the Rajya Sabha representing Bihar. He has also served on the post of Deputy Chairman of the Upper House.
