New Delhi. US Vice President J.D. Vance completely rejected the claim that Lebanon is part of ongoing peace talks between Washington and Tehran, just as a fragile two-week ceasefire is going into effect. Speaking to reporters before leaving Hungary, when asked if Lebanon was included in the peace proposal, J.D. Vance said that America had never made any such promise. He stressed that the main objective of this ceasefire was to focus on Iran and America’s allies Israel and the Gulf Arab countries. We never gave any indication that anything like this was going to happen. We just said that this ceasefire will focus on Iran and will also focus on America’s allies Israel and the Arab countries of the Gulf.

Vice President J.D. Vance’s comments have put Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in trouble, as he claimed that Lebanon is also a part of this peace deal. A claim that was completely rejected by both US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. This embarrassment caused by the claims of Sharif, who calls himself a mediator, is a part of the chaos and turmoil that has prevailed in Islamabad for the last few hours. Pakistan had tried to present itself as a peacemaker between the US and Iran, but new details have emerged that show that the White House itself had actually put pressure on Pakistan to mediate this temporary ceasefire with Iran. This report has raised serious questions on Pakistan’s independent diplomatic stance. Because it indicates that Islamabad was not an impartial mediator, but was merely a convenient medium for the US to carry forward this temporary ceasefire agreement. In this way, instead of playing the role of an active and impartial mediator between these two parties, Pakistan remained just a messenger. Pakistan PM Shehbaz Sharif, who first publicly suggested a two-week ceasefire, has now become a mere spectator. While Army Chief Asim Munir has played the lead role in it. He held emergency discussions with US officials including Donald Trump, JD Vance and envoy Steve Witkoff.
