New Delhi.The wait for increase in Dearness Allowance (DA) for central government employees and pensioners is continuously increasing. Usually the DA amendment, which takes place in January, is announced by March, but this time no official decision has come even till the second week of April. This has intensified both curiosity and discussion among the employees.

Concern increased over delay in decision

In fact, no final decision on DA increase was taken in the recent cabinet meetings. At present the employees are getting dearness allowance at the rate of 58%. Regarding the delay, it is believed that this is not due to any policy change, but due to administrative process and financial assessment.

Why is there a delay this time?

Experts say that this time the government is taking more caution regarding DA amendment. A detailed review of inflation index (CPI-IW) data and fiscal balance is being conducted. Also, the preparations for the 8th Pay Commission, which is likely to be implemented from 2026, are also being kept in mind.

Is this delay normal?

Such delays in pay revision are not usually seen, but can happen when pay commissions or major financial changes are looming. Past experiences show that on some occasions the government had postponed the DA amendment for a short time due to new policies.

How much increase is expected?

According to reports, this time an increase of about 2 percent in DA is possible. If this happens then dearness allowance may increase from 58% to 60%. This level is also considered important because after this, discussions of change in salary structure or merger start.
