Baramati: It is now almost certain that Sunetra Pawar, wife of late former Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, will become the unopposed MLA from Baramati Assembly Seat of Maharashtra. Apart from Sunetra Pawar, there is no other candidate left in the by-election on this seat, due to which it is considered certain that she will win the election unopposed. Congress Party had made Akash More its candidate on this seat, but just one hour before the last date for withdrawal of nomination papers, Akash More withdrew his nomination. With this, Sunetra Pawar was left the only candidate on the Baramati seat.

Let us tell you that earlier Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis had made a special appeal by calling Congress State President Harshvardhan Sapkal. Fadnavis had said that out of respect for late Ajit Pawar, Congress should withdraw its candidate against Sunetra Pawar. He also said that Baramati is the traditional stronghold of the Pawar family, hence all political parties should cooperate in conducting unopposed elections here. Sharad Pawar had also appealed to Congress not to field candidates from Baramati seat. He had said that after the death of Ajit Pawar, this seat can be given to his family as a mark of respect.

Baramati seat was vacant due to the death of Ajit Pawar. Ajit Pawar was the MLA from this seat for a long time and Baramati is considered a stronghold of the Pawar family. Sunetra Pawar has been made the candidate of Mahayuti alliance. After the decision of Akash More to withdraw his name, now Sunetra Pawar will reach the Assembly without any contest. There was voting for the by-election here on April 23, but now voting will be required.

After the completion of the nomination withdrawal process, the Election Commission will formally announce the unopposed victory. This development has become a topic of much discussion in Maharashtra politics. While the Mahayuti alliance was successful in trying to make Sunetra Pawar win without elections, the Congress tried to fight till the last moment, but ultimately withdrew the candidate. After the demise of Ajit Pawar, this seat is being considered very emotionally important for his family.
