New Delhi. India’s Union Steel Ministry has postponed a global steel conference scheduled for April 16-17 in New Delhi. The ministry has attributed this to the obstacles in international participation due to the Middle East crisis. A statement issued by the Steel Ministry on Wednesday said that in view of the changing global circumstances, including the West Asia crisis, many delegates, speakers, exhibitors and other stakeholders are facing considerable inconvenience and difficulties with respect to travel, logistics, scheduling and other arrangements.

The conflict in the Middle East began on February 28, when the US and Israel attacked Iran. Tehran has since closed the Strait of Hormuz and launched attacks on targets in other countries in the region. In a separate statement issued earlier, the government said that the steel sector will have to deal with challenges to energy security. Regardless, it is expected that the sector will maintain its growth momentum as demand remains strong. The participation of foreign delegates was being affected due to travel and logistics difficulties due to the ongoing crisis in West Asia. The event was scheduled to be held at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi. This decision has been taken in the interest of all stakeholders. New dates for the conference will be announced later. It was a major international event aimed at bringing together the stalwarts of the steel ecosystem.
