New Delhi. At the 61st session of the UN Human Rights Council, Baloch activist Sabiha Baloch expressed deep concern over the human rights situation in Balochistan and drew attention to the worsening pattern of what she described as increasing state-supported abuses in the region. Speaking on behalf of the Baloch Yakzehti Committee, he emphasized that the province continues to witness serious violations against its people despite being the center of large foreign-backed development projects. According to The Balochistan Post, Baloch highlighted the ongoing issue of enforced disappearances and alleged that Baloch people are often taken away under unclear circumstances, leaving their families with no information about their whereabouts. They further pointed to reports of extrajudicial killings and the recovery of dismembered bodies and suggested that such incidents reflected a broader, systematic trend rather than being isolated cases.

Highlighting restrictions on civil liberties, he said professionals and members of civil society, including journalists, students, lawyers and human rights defenders. They are often subject to intimidation, arrest, and prosecution under stringent anti-terrorism laws. He argued that these measures were being used to suppress dissenting voices and prevent peaceful advocacy. Baloch also mentioned that several BYC leaders, including Mehrang Baloch, have been in detention for a long time. A situation which he described as extremely worrying. In his concluding remarks, Baloch called on the United Nations to launch an independent and impartial investigation into the human rights situation in Balochistan. The Balochistan region suffers from a worrying trend of enforced disappearances, where some victims are eventually released, while others remain in detention for long periods of time or become victims of targeted killings. These violations of fundamental rights have increased insecurity and distrust among the local population. The persistent threat of arbitrary arrests and lack of accountability continues to destabilize Balochistan, undermining efforts to restore peace, justice, and public confidence in state institutions.
