The Tata Sierra has become a sensation in India, and people are queueing up to buy this SUV. Now, despite being offered with three powertrain options, Tata Motors is planning to expand the Sierra lineup even further. In the coming period, we will be seeing not one, not two, but three new Sierras. Yes, you read that right. Now, without any more wastage of time, here are the details of the three upcoming Tata Sierras in India.

On May 19th this year, Tata Motors will be officially launching the electric version of the Sierra in India. The upcoming Sierra.ev will sit below the Harrier.ev and above the Curvv.ev. The overall design of this SUV will be similar to that of the ICE model. However, it will boast EV-specific design cues such as a closed-off grille, new aero-efficient alloy wheels, and minor rear design tweaks.

Inside, it will continue to offer the same triple-screen layout, panoramic sunroof, dual-zone climate control, ventilated front seats, 360-degree camera, Head-Up Display, ambient lighting, powered tailgate, 12-speaker JBL audio with Dolby Atmos, and ADAS Level 2.

In terms of the powertrain options, the Sierra.ev is expected to be offered with the 55 kWh and 65 kWh battery pack options. However, there is a possibility of a third 75 kWh (from Harrier EV) for higher variants. The standard variant will be rear-wheel drive. However, the higher variants could get a Harrier.ev-like QWD or dual-motor all-wheel-drive system. Pricing of the Sierra.ev is expected to be in the range of Rs 20-30 lakh.

Currently, the Tata Sierra is only sold as a front-wheel-drive vehicle. However, by early 2027, Tata Motors is planning to introduce an all-wheel-drive version of the Sierra in India. This SUV will become Tata’s first ICE AWD SUV since the Tata Hexa, which was discontinued back in 2020.

The Sierra AWD will be based on the ARGOS architecture. Primarily, this platform has been designed for FWD vehicles. However, it will be engineered to support AWD. The upcoming Sierra AWD will not get a dedicated 4X4 system. However, it will get a simpler AWD system, which will help it in taking on slightly less challenging terrains.

Powertrain options for the Sierra AWD have not been confirmed. However, most likely, it will continue to offer the same with 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol, 1.5-litre turbo-petrol, and the 1.5-litre turbo-diesel. The reason behind the launch of the AWD Sierra is due to the rising demand for all-wheel-drive vehicles. Currently, the QWD variants account for 35 percent of sales in Tata Harrier EV. Pricing of the Sierra AWD is expected to be in the range of Rs 18-25 lakh.

The third and the last Sierra on this list is the strong hybrid version of this mid-size SUV. Around the end of 2027 or by early 2028, Tata Motors will launch the strong hybrid version of the Sierra. As the emission norms are getting more stringent with every passing day, Tata Motors and other automakers are now increasing the pace of the development of strong hybrid powertrains, which can deliver high fuel efficiency and provide diesel-like power.

The Sierra, based on the modular ARGOS architecture, is also expected to get a strong hybrid powertrain. It is believed that it will utilise the 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine with Atkinson Cycle and get a small battery pack. Once launched, it will be rivalling the Renault Duster hybrid, Maruti Suzuki Victoris hybrid, Grand Vitara hybrid, and the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder hybrid as well. Pricing of the Sierra strong hybrid will be around Rs 18-26 lakh.
