PSL 2026: David Warner has found himself in serious trouble after being charged with drink-driving in Sydney. The incident comes at a tricky time, as he is currently leading Karachi Kings in the Pakistan Super League 2026.

David Warner stopped during routine police check

The incident reportedly happened in Maroubra, where New South Wales police were carrying out a routine breath testing operation. According to reports, Warner tried to stop his vehicle before reaching the checkpoint, which caught the attention of officers.

Based on the report, the 112-Test Australian veteran blew 0.104 and was arrested and taken to Maroubra Police Station. Warner, who is currently captaining Karachi Kings in the ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL), has been asked before the court next month.

“About 5:30pm today (Sunday 5 April 2026), police were conducting stationary random breath testing on Malabar Road, Maroubra,” a statement from NSW Police read, news.com.au reported. “A van was seen to allegedly stop short of the testing site and park.

“Officers attached to Traffic and Highway Patrol Command approached the vehicle and subjected the driver – a 39-year-old man – to roadside testing which returned a positive result.”

“He was arrested and taken to Maroubra Police Station where a second test allegedly returned a reading of 0.104. The man was issued with a Field Court Attendance Notice for drive with middle-range PCA to appear before the Downing Centre Local Court on Thursday 7 May 2026,” it further read.

Taken into custody and legal proceedings ahead

Following the tests, Warner was taken into custody and officially charged with a drink-driving offence. He has now been directed to appear in court next month. While the situation is serious, the timeline suggests it may not directly clash with his cricketing commitments.

Why David Warner returned to Australia during PSL 2026

Karachi Kings last played a match in PSL 2026 on April 2 against Rawalpindiz. With a gap in the schedule until April 9, Warner flew back to Australia to spend some time with his family before rejoining the squad.

However, it is still unclear how soon Warner will be able to return to Pakistan and link up again with his Karachi Kings teammates.

Warner’s PSL 2026 availability is uncertain

The tournament is set to end on May 3, which means it will not be a problem for Warner to appear in court on May 7. This season of PSL is being held at just two venues instead of six cities, a change made due to the economic impact of the Iran war.

Even so, his immediate availability remains uncertain as the situation continues to unfold.

Karachi Kings’ strong run under Warner

Despite the off-field issue, Karachi Kings have been in excellent form under Warner’s leadership. The team is currently unbeaten in PSL 2026 and sits comfortably at the top of the points table.

They began their campaign with a 14-run win over Quetta Gladiators and followed it up with victories against Lahore Qalandars by 4 wickets and Rawalpindiz by 5 wickets.

On a personal level, Warner started with a solid 35 against Quetta Gladiators. He then had a quiet outing with just eight runs before bouncing back strongly with a half-century against Rawalpindiz.

Karachi Kings are scheduled to face Peshawar Zalmi on April 9 at the National Stadium Karachibut all eyes will be on whether Warner is available to continue leading the side.
