Starbucks in South Korea and Japan are marking the arrival of spring with a cross-border menu exchange, swapping their signature seasonal beverages in a limited-time collaboration.

According to Korea JoongAng DailyStarbucks Japan began selling the Cream Puff Frappuccino and Cream Puff Latte, its take on Korea’s popular Choux Cream Latte, on March 13. First introduced in South Korea in 2017, the Choux Cream Latte has become a seasonal staple. This year, it surpassed 3 million cups sold within a month of its March 4 launch, according to the company.

Starbucks Korea returned the gesture on March 16 with the launch of the Cherry Blossom White Peach Cream Frappuccino, a localized version of a drink previously available only in Japan. The caffeine-free beverage blends white peach and cherry blossom flavors with milk pudding and peach jelly, and will be available through April 14.

According to Japan Todaythe Cherry Blossom White Peach Cream Frappuccino is one of three seasonal drinks introduced in Japan this spring.

“We wanted to offer a new experience by presenting the seasonal beverages of both Korea and Japan together to mark the 10th anniversary of the Choux Cream Latte,” said Choi Hyun Jung, head of beverage development at Starbucks Korea. “We will continue to provide distinctive experiences through beverages that represent each season.”

The exchange also comes during South Korea’s cherry blossom season, a key marketing period for food and beverage companies. The brief bloom has become an opportunity for brands to roll out limited-edition products and attract customers seeking seasonal experiences.

Ahead of the collaboration, Starbucks Korea had introduced Sweet Milk Coffee, another drink previously available only in Japan, on Feb. 26, selling more than 500,000 cups within three weeks. The beverage had built a following among Korean tourists visiting Starbucks locations in Japan prior to its domestic debut.
