The Los Angeles Lakers and Dallas Mavericks will enter their matchup with significant injury concerns, according to the official NBA injury report released Sunday, April 5.

The Lakers will be without Luka Doncic, Austin Reaves, and Marcus Smart, while Jarred Vanderbilt remains questionable.

Doncic (left hamstring strain) and Reaves (left oblique strain) are confirmed out, removing two of the team’s top scorers who average 33.5 and 23.3 points per game respectively. Smart (right ankle contusion) also will not play, leaving the Lakers’ perimeter defense and playmaking under strain. Vanderbilt’s availability is uncertain due to right calf soreness.

Dallas will be missing Kyrie Irving (left knee surgery), Dereck Lively II (right foot surgery), and Caleb Martin (right plantar fascia strain). Marvin Bagley III and John Poulakidas are listed as probable, while Moussa Cisse and Tyler Smith are questionable.

Both teams have struggled recently. The Lakers lost 96-139 at Oklahoma City on April 2 after defeating Cleveland 127-113 on March 31. The Mavericks have dropped consecutive games, including a 127-138 home loss to Orlando on April 3.

Season series history favors Los Angeles, who have won all three previous encounters this season, including a 124-104 victory on February 12.

The injury report leaves Los Angeles with limited rotation options, forcing increased minutes from LeBron James and Deandre Ayton. James averages 20.6 points and 6.0 rebounds per game, while Ayton contributes 12.4 points and 8.2 rebounds. For the Mavericks, Cooper Flagg, averaging 20.8 points and 6.6 rebounds, will need to shoulder a larger offensive load.
