According to sources, Pawan Kheda is not present at his residence. Recently he had organized a press conference regarding the passport of the wife of the Chief Minister of Assam, in which he had made many serious allegations. In this context, Assam Police has reached Delhi.
What is the matter?
A political controversy erupted in Assam on Sunday, when Pawan Khera accused Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s wife, Rinki Sarma, of holding passports of three countries and huge properties abroad. The Chief Minister immediately reacted to this and termed these allegations as baseless and politically motivated.
Chief Minister’s statement
Sarma wrote in his social media post, “Pawan Kheda’s press conference reflects the deep frustration within the Congress party. Such baseless attacks amid the growing mandate in Assam only highlight his dwindling voter base.”
intention to take legal action
Terming Pawan Kheda’s allegations as ‘malicious and politically motivated’, Sarma said he and his wife would soon file criminal and civil defamation cases against him.
Basis of Pawan Kheda’s allegations
Pawan Kheda presented some documents in his press conference, which he claimed to have received from his associates. He said Rinki Sarma holds valid passports of UAE, Egypt and Antigua and Barbuda.
Allegations about properties
Kheda also alleged that Rinki Sarma has some properties in Dubai and a company registered in Wyoming, USA, with a budget of USD 34.67 billion. He also said that Sarma has not mentioned these properties in his election affidavit.
Indian citizenship question
Kheda raised the question whether Rinke Sarma had Indian citizenship and passport, while India does not allow dual citizenship.
Demand for arrest and electoral disqualification
Pawan Khera has demanded the arrest of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and his disqualification from the upcoming assembly elections. He alleged that his undeclared international assets indicated corruption. If the election results are not in their favor, they may try to flee abroad.
Appeal to Home Minister for intervention
Pawan Khera sought Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s intervention in the matter and requested to form a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the allegations.
