UP Board: The Uttar Pradesh Madhyamik Shiksha Parishad (UPMSP) has issued detailed guidelines regarding the teaching of textbooks in schools operating under the UP Board for the academic session 2026-27. According to the guidelines issued by Board Secretary Bhagwati Singh, awareness and accessibility camps regarding authorized textbooks will be organized. He has also warned of punitive action against schools found teaching unauthorized textbooks. He stated that, under Section 7(1-a) of the Intermediate Education Act, 1921, the use of only authorized textbooks for teaching and learning purposes in schools operating under the UP Board is legally mandated.

According to the UP Board Secretary, for the academic session 2026-27, 70 textbooks published by the NCERT, New Delhi, have been adopted for a total of 36 subjects. These include High School level subjects (Classes 9 and 10)—specifically English, Science, Mathematics, and Social Science—and Intermediate level subjects (Classes 11 and 12)—specifically English, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics, History, Geography, Civics, Sociology, Economics, Business Studies, Accountancy, Psychology, and Home Science.

Furthermore, 12 selected textbooks for Hindi, Sanskrit, and Urdu—covering Classes 9 through 12—have been introduced at affordable rates for students studying in all government, aided, and self-financed schools across the state.

**Books Made Available at Affordable Rates**

According to the UP Board Secretary, for the current academic session 2026-27, the UP Board has made textbooks available at affordable rates for a total of 36 subjects (Classes 9 to 12), including 12 core subjects. The UP Board has authorized three printers for the printing and distribution of these textbooks. Specifically, the UP Board has authorized M/s Pioneer Printers and Publishers (located behind Lakshmi Dharm Kanta, Sikandra, Agra) to handle the textbooks for Classes 9 through 12. Meanwhile, M/s Singhal Agencies (Publishers and Distributors), located on B.N. Verma Road, Lucknow, has been authorized for the printing and distribution of Class 11 textbooks, while M/s Pitambara Books Pvt. Ltd., located in the Industrial Area, Bijoli, Jhansi, has been authorized for Class 10 textbooks.
**Unauthorized Books Being Taught**

According to the UP Board Secretary, it has come to their notice that unauthorized textbooks are being circulated—and even taught—in numerous schools. Through collusion between schools and booksellers—driven by personal self-interest—textbooks and guidebooks from private publishers are being brought into circulation, bypassing the publishers authorized by the UP Board. These unauthorized books are significantly more expensive than the UP Board's authorized textbooks, ranging from 149% to 361% higher in price. Consequently, students are being compelled to purchase and study these specific books within their schools.

**Campaign Against Unauthorized Books**
The UP Board has issued directives for effective inspections and strict action to curb the circulation of unauthorized textbooks published by entities other than those officially authorized. To this end, a special campaign involving school inspections will be conducted during April, specifically up until April 15th. The objective is to ensure that no unnecessary financial burden is placed upon students and their parents due to the cost of expensive textbooks.
