Delhi EWS Admission: On Monday, the Directorate of Education, Delhi, organized a computerized draw for admissions under the EWS/DG and CWSN categories. This process was conducted for admissions into Nursery, KG, and Class 1 in private schools for the academic session 2026-27. Following the draw, Delhi's Education Minister, Ashish Sood, stated that the Delhi government is committed to ensuring that every eligible child in the state receives the opportunity for quality education fairly and transparently.
Ashish Sood noted that this year, for admissions across all these categories, effective checks have been put in place against duplicate and erroneous applications through technical enhancements—specifically, software developed and approved by the NIC—and Aadhaar-based verification (Encrypted Aadhaar Seeding). Consequently, genuine beneficiaries have gained increased opportunities for admission.
**Increase in the Number of Schools and Seats**
The Education Minister informed that there has been a significant increase in the total number of seats this year. Additionally, the application process has been made even simpler and more transparent. Compared to the 2025–26 session, the total number of participating schools has risen from 2,219 to 2,308 this year. Under the EWS/DG category, the number of seats has increased from 44,045 to 48,092, while in the CWSN category, seats have risen from 6,471 to 7,609. Thus, the total number of seats this year has grown from 50,516 to 55,701, marking an increase of 5,185 seats. Sood further added that the Education Department of the Delhi government received a total of 139,524 applications this year. In the EWS/DG category, the number of fully completed applications stood at 138,536. Meanwhile, in the CWSN category, the number of completed applications increased from 904 to 988.

**Schools Allotted Immediately After the Draw**
Sood stated that, on this occasion, the draw was conducted in a completely transparent manner, facilitated through a PPT presentation. A noteworthy aspect of the event was that the parents themselves conducted the draw, a move that has further strengthened their confidence in the process. The Education Minister further informed that schools were allotted to the children immediately following the draw. We have refined the process since last year; now, parents' documents are verified directly via mobile phones, thereby sparing them the need to make repeated visits to the schools. The subsequent stages of the admission process are set to commence within the next three days, ensuring that selected students can secure admission without facing any difficulties.
**Fraudulent Applications Under the Aam Aadmi Party Government**
Sood also revealed that during the 2024–25 academic year—under the administration of the Aam Aadmi Party government—a total of 240,084 applications were received for admissions under the EWS, DG, and CWSN categories. This clearly indicates that, at that time, there was a significant degree of duplication among the applications received. More than 100,000 applications were identified as multiple or duplicate entries—a figure representing an excess of approximately 75% compared to the number of genuine applications.
**Decline in Applications for 'CM Shri' Schools**
He further stated that the state of education in Delhi has now improved. The number of applicants across all these categories has also seen a decline, largely due to children enrolling in the 'CM Shri' schools established by the Delhi government. This serves as an indicator that comprehensive and positive transformations have taken place within Delhi's government schools, leading to a renewed sense of trust among parents regarding these institutions.
