Beverley Callard is back on our screens tonight as I'm A Celebrity All Stars returns to ITV. The former Coronation Street actress, 69, headed into the South African wilderness along with several other show icons last year, all competing for the title of Legend of the Jungle. Beverley's first stint on I'm A Celeb came in 2020, when she took part in the show's first-ever series filmed in Wales during the Covid-19 pandemic.

She did her fair share of challenges during her time in the castle, including the infamous eating trial. However, fans were divided over this as Beverley was served different food to her campmates because she is vegan. The soap icon was served dishes including vomit fruit and fermented plums, meaning she was able to stick to her vegan diet.

However, with her campmates Vernon Kay and Jordan North forced to chow down on sheep's penis, goat's eyes and deer testicles, many viewers questioned whether Beverley had been let off lightly.

At the time, some took to social media to voice their opinions. One wrote: "Beverley's a vegan. So whilst Jordan and Vernon have to eat dog brains and camel phlegm, she's gotta eat a bit of 2 day outta date iceberg. Hope she survives," one tweeted at the time.

Another questioned whether she was "cheating" by sticking to vegan dishes, while a third added: "Don't get it. If her dishes are vegan how is that going to be hard or challenging?"

A fourth commented: "Vegan eating trial.... What's Beverly gonna eat a f****ng leaf with bit of soil on."

Beverley admitted she was "flattered" when she received the call to appear on All Stars and had no hesitation in throwing herself back into the experience, as she knew it would be different to her time in Wales.

She explained: "I was really flattered when I got the call. In fact, I was gobsmacked! But I said yes because Wales was so different."

Reflecting on how her first stint changed her, Beverley, who was recently diagnosed with breast cancer, explained that she left with greater self-confidence.

She said: "I do tend to suffer from low self-esteem and without sounding big headed, because people kept telling me they loved me and how down to earth I was.

"It gave me confidence and it was lovely to be with such a wonderful group of people."
