On Saturday evening, a devastating incident occurred in Kotma, Anuppur district of Madhya Pradesh. A four-story building known as Agarwal Lodge suddenly collapsed near the bus stand, causing panic in the area. The incident took place around 5:50 PM, according to eyewitnesses, who reported that the entire structure crumbled in an instant. People nearby were thrown into chaos, desperately trying to escape for their lives. Reports indicate that one person has died, and between six to seven others have sustained injuries.
The Superintendent of Police in Anuppur confirmed the death of one individual and expressed concerns that several others might be trapped under the debris. Emergency services, including police and rescue teams, arrived promptly at the scene. Heavy machinery, including cranes, is being utilized to clear the rubble.
Local shopkeepers and residents noted that construction work was underway next to Agarwal Lodge, where an old building was being demolished. Deep excavation for a basement had weakened the foundation of the adjacent structure.
Initial assessments suggest that this excavation may have caused the hotel building to tilt, leading to its eventual collapse. Rescue operations are ongoing, and authorities have initiated an investigation into the incident.
