Indian Railway’s ‘armor’ Now it will become stronger, government approves ₹398 crore for Gujarat-MP rail network

Indian Railways Kavach System Gujarat MP: The Central Government has taken a big step towards making Indian Railways more safe and modern. The government has given the green signal to an ambitious Rs 398.36 crore project to equip the rail network of Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh with better communication and safety systems. The main objective of this project is to bring precision in rail operations and to provide state-of-the-art safety system ‘Kavach’ (Kavach) has to be strengthened.

Optical fiber will be laid

Ministry of Railways According to , under this scheme, Optical Fiber Cable (OFC) will be laid on a total of 1,929 km of rail route in Ahmedabad and Ratlam divisions of Western Railway. Talking in detail, the work of laying 2’48 fiber optical cable will be done on 1,456 km route in Ahmedabad division and 473 km route in Ratlam division. This will create a strong foundation for high-speed data transmission.

‘Armor’ and LTE networks

This new project is an integral part of the massive national plan of Rs 27,693 crore under the Works Program for 2024-25. Through this, ‘Kavach’ will be installed on the railway network of the entire country. Long Term Evolution (LTE) based communication network is being prepared for the system. This new communication system will not only support the modern signaling system of the Railways but is also expected to significantly improve the operational efficiency and reliability of trains.

What is ‘Kavach’ And how does it work?

‘Kavach’ It is an Automatic Train Protection (ATP) system indigenously developed by Indian Railways. In view of the serious railway accidents that have occurred in recent years, the government has laid special emphasis on rapidly implementing this safety system.

This technology is so precise that if the loco pilot misses the signal or two trains accidentally come face to face on the same track, then this system automatically applies emergency brakes, which can avert major accidents. A separate sub-project of Rs 2,800 crore has also been sanctioned for this work for Western Railways.

Investment of ₹34,000 crore on passenger amenities

Along with security, the government is also investing heavily in improving the passenger experience. Over Rs 34,000 crore has been sanctioned for modernization of passenger facilities in the last three years. According to Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav, Rs 12,884 crore has been allocated for 2024-25 and Rs 12,018 crore for 2025-26.

To control crowd at stations, special work is being done at 76 major stations of the country. in this series Madhya Pradesh-Uttar Pradesh And 23 permanent ‘holding areas’ at congested stations in Maharashtra. They are being built so that passengers can have a smooth and comfortable travel experience.
