New Delhi, 30 March. Opposition parties created a ruckus in the Rajya Sabha on Monday over the misuse of reservation for backward classes on the basis of religion and walked out of the House.

BJP member K. Laxman raised the issue on alleged misuse of OBC reservation on the basis of religion during Zero Hour in the House. He demanded a review of the reservation being given to the Muslim community in some states. He said OBC reservation should be on the basis of social and educational backwardness and not on the basis of religion.

In some states, reservation benefits are being given wrongly on the basis of religion – Laxman

Of. Laxman alleged that in states like Telangana, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu and Kerala, reservation benefits are being given unfairly on the basis of religion, which is unconstitutional. There was a huge uproar in the house on this. Deputy Leader of Opposition Pramod Tiwari said that the issue raised in the House is divisive and an attempt to weaken the reservation of backward classes. Opposition parties walked out in strong protest, following which the proceedings were disrupted.

JP Nadda criticized the walkout of opposition parties

Leader of the House JP Nadda criticized the walkout of the opposition parties and said that the opposition is running away from discussion and the Congress is doing appeasement politics. He said that it is with great sadness that it has to be said that the Indi alliance under the leadership of Congress is neither interested in democracy, nor in following parliamentary decorum, nor in speaking and debating on any topic, nor in following the Constitution. They have no faith in the Constitution.

Opposition parties see Muslim community as vote bank

He said that the opposition parties look at the Muslim community as a vote bank. He has only indulged in appeasement politics to attract the Muslim vote bank. The issue raised by K Laxman is to the Constitution of OBC reservation, but Congress people try to divide the society by doing politics.

Nadda said that the government is ready to discuss any topic. The entire opposition is trying to divide the society and spoil the environment for its politics. Condemning the appeasement politics of the opposition, he said that Congress should not be allowed to become hostage to the actions of an innocent child.
