Big relief from the government on LPG shortage

LPG Shortage: LPG gas has been in short supply for several days, prompting the government to make a significant decision. Under this decision, industries operating in the states will now receive limited LPG. The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has directed states to limit gas supplies for industrial use.

The government has taken this step to address LPG supply issues. The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has directed states to allocate 70% of non-domestic LPG to other sectors, while limiting supplies to industrial users. Furthermore, the government has launched a reform scheme, under which states that actively promote alternative fuels such as PNG will receive an additional 10% LPG allocation.

Industrial supply will be limited.
One of the main reasons for issuing this directive is to curb industrial consumption. Several sectors, such as pharmaceuticals, food processing, steel, glass, ceramics, packaging, and chemicals, will now be supplied only 70% of their pre-March 2026 bulk LPG consumption levels. Furthermore, this supply has been capped at 0.2 metric tons per day, effectively limiting the total quantity available to industries. This government decision will have a greater impact on industries that are completely dependent on LPG.

These companies will receive LPG first.
Following this government decision, LPG will first be provided to factories or companies that cannot use natural gas. Additionally, these companies will be required to register with OMCS (Oil Companies) and apply to city gas distribution companies for PNG connections. This decision will benefit states that promote PNG gas connections.
