  • LPG shortage ‘shock’ to domestic industries!
  • Chapati center in Dadar in crisis
  • Unemployment hangs over hundreds of women

Kaustubh account. Navrastra Mumbai: The effects of the war in the Gulf are now beginning to emerge. Where there are long queues for domestic gas cylinders, where there is a reduction in food in the staff canteen. This picture is seen all over the country. However, this has started to affect women’s employment as well, as the work of many women who make and sell chapattis from home has stopped, many women who work here as helpers have become unemployed.

Business ‘breaks’ for the first time in 22 years

We have been doing this chapattis business for the past 22 years. For the first time in so many years, Ekadashi is the time for us to stop working. No rear cylinder found. We make about two and a half to three thousand chapattis every day. Along with this, we also make about a thousand loaves of bread every day. Now even thousands of chapatis are not made at home due to shortage of gas. Seema Mahindrakar, who runs a home-made chapattis business in Dadar’s Bhoiwada, informed that it has affected not only my business, but also the employment of women who work as helpers.

These important areas are getting a lot of heat

The money earned from this work goes towards the education of the women’s children and other household expenses, but as these women’s employment has stagnated, their problems at home have also increased. The chapatis made by these women are supplied to the staff and student canteen of Nair Hospital. Along with this, these women’s chapatas are also supplied to dental hospitals and colleges. Along with this, chapatis are also provided from Seema’s own house to hoteliers in the surrounding area. Therefore, the closure of Seema’s work will affect all these areas.

Anxiety increased

Seema is assisted in this business by five other women as helpers, for which she needs one cylinder every two days. These women are not able to fulfill the orders as cylinders are not available. As a result, their business has come to a standstill and this has affected employment. By helping Seema in her work, five other women were also getting employment. However, the time has come for these five self-employed women to work only as ‘housewives’.
