Bank Holidays in January 2026: Not 5, 7, or 10 days…Banks will be closed on these dates; Check city-wise list

The year 2026 is just around the corner. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has released its Bank Holiday Calendar for 2026. According to this calendar the month of January will have 16 bank holidays; however these holidays vary across different states so banks across the country will not be closed on all 16 days simultaneously. Of those 16 days off 6 days will fall on the second and fourth Saturdays of the month 4 days will fall on Sundays and 10 days will be designated as either National holidays or State-level holidays as reported by TV9. It is highly suggested that customers check with their citys specific banks holiday list before planning any banking-related work in January. In January 2026 banks in both the public and private sectors across the country will be closed on a number of occasions and festivals including: New Year Swami Vivekananda Jayanti Bihu Makar Sankranti Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Jayanti and Republic Day. During these times banks in some states may close for two or three consecutive days. The second and fourth Saturdays along with four Sundays each month will see banks closed nationwide. All scheduled and non-scheduled banks will observe public holiday on second and fourth Saturdays reads the statement on the website.
