WhatsApp rolls out Instagram Notes-style feature

WhatsApp has brought back its "About" feature, giving users the option to share brief text updates with others.

The update functions similarly to Instagram Notes and can be used to keep friends informed or spark conversations.

The company points out that this was actually WhatsApp's original feature, long before it became popular for secure, private messaging.

The launch of the 'About' feature also makes users' status more visible than before.

Now, other users can see your status at the top of their one-on-one chats and profiles.

You can even tap on someone's About status in a chat to reply directly.

Like Instagram Notes, WhatsApp's About status will disappear after a day by default.

WhatsApp gives users the option to customize how long their About status stays visible.

You can choose to have it disappear faster or stay longer than the default 24 hours.

The company also lets you choose who can see your About status, just your contacts or in a more publicly visible manner.
