In the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026, Delhi Capitals (DC) team was sluggish in the powerplay. Before the clash against Rajasthan Royals (RR) in Jaipur on Friday (May 1), DC was able to score only 8.20 runs per over in this phase, which was the second worst run rate after Lucknow Super Giants (7.93). DC was lagging behind in many matches here but Pathum Nissanka turned the tables in Jaipur.

In the chase of 226 runs, Nissanka started playing big shots from the very first over and took DC to 70 runs by the end of the powerplay. This was DC’s best powerplay score in IPL 2026. Meanwhile, Nissanka completed his fifty in 23 balls. During this, he hit 5 fours and 3 sixes. Nissanka set the tone early in the innings, allowing DC to easily execute their biggest run chase in the IPL. In the powerplay, Rahul stood strong at the other end and scored 19 runs in 13 balls.

Nisanka-Rahul wrest match from RR

After cutting the lead in the powerplay, Nissanka-Rahul did not let the run pace slow down and took DC beyond 100 within 9 overs. Due to the explosive batting of both, RR team came on the backfoot and could not make a comeback. Nissanka was out after scoring 62 runs in 33 balls with the help of 6 fours and 3 sixes. After his departure, Rahul and Nitish Rana made a partnership of 61 runs in 30 balls.

Nitish scored 33 runs in 17 balls, which included 3 fours and 2 sixes. Rahul scored 75 runs in 40 balls. 6 fours and 5 sixes came from his bat. RR got the wickets of Nitish and Rahul in consecutive overs but Ashutosh Sharma (25 not out in 15 balls) and Tristan Stubbs (18 not out in 11 balls) took DC to the target without any trouble. With this, DC broke the streak of three consecutive defeats and returned to the winning track.
