For a better user experience, WhatsApp adds new features to the app every few times, but now soon the fun of using the app is going to be spoiled. Since the launch of WhatsApp, all its services have been free for users, but now it seems that the company is going to make big changes like paid features and advertisements in the app to increase revenue. This is WhatsApp's big step towards monetization since its acquisition by Meta in 2014.
Every day more than 1.5 billion people use the channel and status feature and both these features are given in the update tab of WhatsApp and now soon advertisements will also start appearing in the update tab. The company has said that users will not see advertisements in chats, calls, and groups. WhatsApp said, we have been talking for years about building a business that does not interrupt your personal chat and we believe the update tab is the right place for these new features.
Creators will benefit
Not only ads in the Updates section, but paid channel subscriptions and promoted channels will also appear in the Updates tab. Over the next few months, these changes will gradually start appearing in the app to users. Users will have to subscribe to their favorite channels for exclusive updates and spend money every month. The purpose of WhatsApp making this big change in the app is to provide creators and companies a new way to earn money directly through the app.
WhatsApp assured users
WhatsApp has assured users that these changes are limited to the Updates tab and will not affect personal messaging. The company said in its official statement, "If you use WhatsApp only to chat with friends, there will be no change in your experience."
