RBI’s new guidelines: steps towards strengthening digital security
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has also taken seriously the increasing cases of digital fraud. In January 2025, RBI has issued strict instructions to all banks and financial institutions. Under this, all transactions and customer service calls will be made only with the “1600xx” series numbers. At the same time, the “140xx” series will be used for marketing and promotional calls. This step has been taken to protect customers from fake calls and to ensure their financial security. RBI believes that mobile numbers have now become an important part of digital identity, and its safety is very important.
Increasing danger of fraud calls
Nowadays, people who fraudulently try to cheat people by calling themselves bank officials, government employees, or representatives of a reliable institute. These fraudsters try to get sensitive information like OTP, bank account information, or UPI PIN by calling fake numbers. Once they get this information, they can blow money from your bank account. This initiative of SBI and RBI aims to warn customers with such dangers and protect their hard earned money.
Precautions for customers
SBI has given some important suggestions to customers, so that they can avoid being a victim of digital fraud:
-
Relying only on authorized numbers: Always check if the call is coming from the +91-1600 series. If the number looks suspicious, cut the call immediately.
-
Do not share personal information: No matter how reliable the collar looks, never share OTP, password, or UPI PIN.
-
Contact the bank: If you suspect a call, immediately contact the official website of SBI or the nearest branch. You can also call the bank’s customer care number.
-
Be alert, be safe: If a collar is pressurizing you to take a hasty decision, it can be a sign of fraud.
Your safety, our responsibility
This initiative of SBI and RBI not only prefer the safety of customers, but also shows how important financial security is in the digital age. Awareness and caution is the biggest weapon to avoid digital fraud. If you are also a customer of SBI, save these numbers in your phone and beware of any suspicious calls. Always be cautious to protect your hard -earned money and rely only reliable sources.
