Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala High Court said that the RBI cannot order any bank to waive the loan of Wayanad landslide victims, but the Central Government and the National Disaster Management Authority can take such decisions in this direction. While hearing the case, a bench of Justice AK Jaishankaran Nambiar and Justice Ishwaran S said that if the Center and NDMA wishes, it will pass orders from banks to ask banks to waive loans.

The bench said that Kerala Bank has waived the loans of disaster victims and the burden of about five crore rupees has increased on it. The High Court said that if Kerala Bank can do this, then other banks who are less burdened can also do so.

Court said on the affidavit of the center
In fact, the Central Government had filed an affidavit earlier this week and said that according to RBI instructions on natural disasters, the loans of Wayanad landslide victims can be reorganized or re -resurrected. The bench has made this comment after this affidavit of the center. The bench also directed the state government to take adequate measures including removal of debris, so that it can be ensured that the disaster like last year is not again.

Court had taken automatic cognizance on Wayanad landslide
The High Court has said that preparations should be started before the monsoon. It has started raining. The NDMA should work closely with the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) to prevent any disaster this year. The Peeth Wayanad was hearing a public interest litigation taken by the court automatic cognizance in view of the landslide. Its purpose was to improve disaster prevention and management in Kerala. On July 30 last year, landslides occurred in Mundakkai and Churalamala areas which caused a lot of damage. More than 200 people lost their lives in this disaster and hundreds of people were injured and while 32 people went missing.
