The State Bank of India (SBI) has announced significant changes to its ATM transaction charges and free usage limits. These revisions are part of the bank’s efforts to simplify the fee structure, enhance digital banking, and standardize usage limits across metro and non-metro locations. The revised charges apply to both financial and non-financial transactions carried out at SBI and other bank ATMs.

As per the new rules, regardless of the location or the customer’s Average Monthly Balance (AMB), SBI customers will now get:

• 5 free transactions per month from SBI ATMs

• 10 free transactions per month from any bank’s ATMs, including SBI and others

SBI has clarified the new limits based on the average monthly balance in customers’ savings accounts:

• For AMB between ₹25,000 and ₹50,000:

  • 5 free transactions at other bank ATMs

• For AMB between ₹50,000 and ₹1,00,000:

  • Same as above – 5 free transactions at other bank ATMs

• For AMB above ₹1,00,000:

  • Unlimited free transactions at both SBI and other bank ATMs

This provides greater flexibility and benefits for customers maintaining higher balances.

From May 1, 2025, if a customer exceeds the monthly free limit, the following charges will apply:

• At SBI ATMs:
  ₹15 + GST per transaction

• At Other Bank ATMs:
  ₹21 + GST per transaction

For non-financial services such as balance inquiry or mini statement:

• At SBI ATMs:
  No additional charge after free limit

• At other bank ATMs:
  ₹10 + GST per transaction

In case of a failed ATM transaction due to insufficient balance, the penalty is:

• ₹20 + GST

These revised charges and limits will come into effect from May 1, 2025.

SBI’s revised ATM transaction structure is designed to align with evolving banking habits while encouraging higher account balances and digital banking. While customers with higher balances will enjoy greater benefits, those exceeding their limits will face standard charges, including ₹23 per withdrawal once the free limit is breached.
